Barry Hayles thought his move to Leicester was dead. Hours later he was on the Leicester team bus, learning the names of his new team mates…
‘Ian Holloway came in for me about three weeks ago but Plymouth said there was no chance of any of their players going to Leicester. So I thought the deal was dead. Then on Sunday I got a call saying the clubs had agreed a fee and I could go. So I said, do I have a choice in this? What is the situation? But no one from Plymouth was talking to me.
‘We`ve got Southampton in the cup tomorrow, which is a nice distraction from the league. If we can win it will bring some confidence for the next game. When you get in a rut of losing you tend to stay in it, but we need to start winning games. Southampton have got a strong front line with Stern John and Bradley Wright-Phillips. If we can keep them quiet we definitely have a chance of winning the game.’
