FIFA have rejected the Leicester City paperwork for midfielder Adrien Silva as apparently it came though 14 seconds too late.

Leicester agreed to sign the player late on as deadline day ticked through once we knew Danny Drinkwater was on his way to Chelsea, and with a £22million deal agreed with Sporting Lisbon for his services we applied for an extension to the deal but FIFA are maintaining that the paperwork came through late so his signing now has to be deferred to the January window.

Leicester are appealing the decision and the Football Association have been in touch with FIFA to try and help our case.

The BBC carried quotes from a club spokesperson who explained.

‘We are working with Adrien and Sporting Clube de Portugal to overcome some issues relating to the player’s registration and exploring all options to find a resolution.’

Sporting President Bruno de Carvalho said of the situation.

‘The transfer of Adrien is already completed. Hopefully Leicester find a solution for him.’

The BBC state that one single form arrived late so quite why, having received the other documents, FIFA can’t classify them as being successfully in transit by the deadline is a question for them to answer.
